The HRSA Maternal and Child Health Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Related Disabilities (LEND) program trains future leaders in a variety of disciplines to improve the health of children who have or are at risk of developing neurodevelopmental disabilities or other similar conditions such as autism.

Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Other Related Disabilities (LEND)

  • $26 million in grants to 39 universities and hospitals in FY 2009.
  • Expansions of 16 LEND programs in FY 2009 in addition to 18 in FY 2008
  • One new LEND program in FY 2009 in addition to the four in FY 2008
Leadership Education in Developmental Behavioral Pediatrics
  • Approximately $1.7 million in grants to ten universities and hospitals in FY 2009.
National Combating Autism Interdisciplinary Training Resource Center
  • $550,000 cooperative agreement to the Association of University Centers on Disabilities, Silver Spring, Maryland in FY 2009

The HRSA Maternal and Children Health Leadership Education in Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics program enhances the behavioral, psychosocial and developmental aspects of general pediatric care by supporting fellows in behavioral pediatrics to help prepare them for leadership roles as teachers, researchers, and clinicians.

The National Interdisciplinary Training Resource Center will play a crucial role in providing technical assistance, building and sustaining partnerships with service systems already serving children with ASD and other developmental disabilities, translating research into evidence-based practice, and utilizing existing and developing new data systems to capture and report project outcomes.
