AIDS cases, by selected exposure categories* for females aged 13 years and older at diagnosis, 1985-2001: The number of heterosexual contact cases grew from 119 in 1985 to 4,142 in 2001. The number of injecting drug use cases grew from 287 in 1985 to 2,212 in 2001. The number of coagulation disorder and receipt of blood/blood component cases grew from 66 in 1985 to 287 in 2001, and the number of undetermined cases grew from 52 in 1985 to 4,606 in 2001.

*Changes in reporting procedures in 1993 led to an increase in the number of cases reported without information about the exposure category.
