Vision and Mission Statement
Vision
All children and adolescents in our Nation will be healthy
and safe and achieve academic success.
Mission
The primary mission of the National Coordinating Committee
on School Health and Safety (NCCSHS) is to bring together
representatives of major national education, health, safety,
and nutrition organizations plus relevant federal agencies
for collaborative activities that promote policies and programs
at national, State, and local levels for advancing the health
and safety of all children and adolescents and promoting their
academic success.
Objectives
- To provide national leadership for the promotion of quality
coordinated school health and safety programs through such
activities as:
- Developing consensus on key issues.
- Convening at least one national meeting annually.
- Developing vehicles for communication among members,
policymakers, and others.
- Showcasing effective and innovative coordinated school
health and safety programs through multiple venues.
- To convey a clear vision of the role of school health
and safety programs in improving the health, safety, mental
health, nutrition, and educational achievement of children
and youth through such activities as:
- Promoting the importance of coordinated school health
to student success and educational reform efforts.
- Increasing the number of organizations that share this
understanding.
- Reducing barriers to collaboration among health, education,
transportation, nutrition, human services, child welfare,
and other child-focused systems and initiatives by addressing
common elements and joint strategies for program integration.
- To facilitate communication and collaboration among national
organizations through such activities as:
- Developing recommendations to policymakers on the integration
of health, education, transportation, nutrition, human,
social and youth services, child welfare and other child-focused
initiatives and programs to support the health, safety,
and education of children and adolescents.
- Developing vehicles for enhanced communication.
- Disseminating timely policy and program information to
members.
- Creating opportunities for joint program development
and other collaborative efforts.
