The Indian Health Service (HIS) is an agency within DHHS responsible for providing Federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. IHS is the principal Federal health care provider and health advocate for Indian people, and its goal is to raise their health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides health services to about 1.5 million American Indians and Alaska Natives who belong to more than 557 Federally recognized tribes in 35 States. The Web site provides information on jobs and scholarships, public relations, area offices and facilities, IT resources (including the Electronic Health Record, IHS' latest medical software application), Nationwide programs and initiatives, medical and professional programs, resources for IHS management, and tribal leaders.

The Office of Minority Health seeks to improve and protect the health of racial and ethnic minority populations through development of health policies and programs that eliminate health disparities. It advises the Secretary of DHHS and the Office of Public Health and Science on public health program activities affecting American Indians and Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Blacks/African Americans, Hispanics/Latinos, Native Hawaiians, and other Pacific Islanders. Its Web site consists of sections on news items, initiatives, programs, health disparities, the resource center, conferences, publications, data/statistics, Federal Clearinghouses, and health links.

This Community Resources Tool Kit is a publication of the OMHR Center and grew out of the National Leadership Summit on Eliminating Racial and Ethnic Disparities in Health. The kit includes data and statistics on African Americans, American Indians/Alaska Natives, Asian Americans/Pacific Islanders, Hispanics/Latinos, and Native Hawaiians/other Pacific Islanders; Federal and State information; initiatives and programs; technical assistance; and resources/organizations.
