The Administration for Children and Families (ACF) is a Federal agency funding State, territory, local, and tribal organizations to provide family assistance (welfare), child support, child care, Head Start, child welfare, and other programs relating to children and families. The Web site consists of four sections: Services for Families, Working with ACF, Policy/Planning, and About ACF. Services for Families includes information on adoption and foster care, child abuse and neglect, child care, child support, disabilities, energy assistance, Head Start, the Healthy Marriage Initiative, Native American tribal, and temporary assistance for needy families. Working with ACF includes initiatives, programs, contracts, grant opportunities and manuals, IT, and State and local. Policy/Planning includes financial, legislation, planning, policy, publications, research, and statistics/data. American School Health Association

Web site of the American School Health Association, a multidisciplinary organization of administrators, counselors, dentists, health educators, physical educators, school nurses and school physicians, which advocates high-quality school health instruction, health services, and a healthful school environment. The Web site includes information about membership, conferences, and ASHA's quarterly publication, "Health in Action."


Center for Health and Health Care in Schools

The Center for Health and Health Care in Schools, a nonpartisan policy and program resource at the George Washington University School of Public Health and Health Services, works to strengthen the well-being of children and youth through effective health programs and health care services in schools. Their site includes an e-journal, news and grant alerts, recent publications, parents' resources, communications and publications, surveys, and fact sheets as well as sections on quality and safety, dental and mental health services, healthy tips, and health issues.

School health programs range from those that help students adopt healthy habits to those that foster a physically and emotionally healthy school environment. This section of the Center for Health and Health Care in Schools site consists of environmental health, Medicaid and health programs in schools (Federal documents addressing the issue), school health issues, school health services (including links to State guidelines), school district reports, and school health links.


Critical Issues in Financing School-Based Health Care

The National Assembly on School-Based Health Care and the Kellogg Foundation convened five regional meetings in 1998 and 1999 to review critical issues regarding the long-term sustainability of school-based health centers. This report summarizes the discussions in which attendees (1) identified the various mechanisms for financing school-based health care, (2) explored challenges in using those resources as long-term funding sources, and (3) outlined future opportunities for creating a sustainable national network of school-based health centers.

DHHS - Administration on Aging

The Administration on Aging (AoA) is the Federal focal point and advocate agency for older persons and their concerns. AoA works to heighten awareness among other Federal agencies, organizations, groups, and the public about the contributions older Americans make, and alerts them to the needs of older people. The site includes aging news, Medicare updates, related links, features, AoA Projects Reports Database, AoA-supported Web sites, eGovernment resources, AoA grant programs, and a section for elders and families as well as one for professionals.


DHHS - Center for Medicaid and State Operations Information Site

Medicaid is the largest source of funding for medical and health-related services for people with limited incomes. This Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services site provides Medicaid information for States and Territories and for consumers. It includes a Medicaid index that provides information on State programs, hot topics, group issues (disability/aging, family/children, dual eligibles, and homelessness). Medicaid frequently asked questions are also included.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services is a Federal agency within DHHS, and is responsible for the following programs: Medicare, Medicaid, The State Children's Health Insurance Program, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (of 1996), and Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments. Links to all the programs are provided on the Web site. Sections for professionals (including providers), Government, and consumer audiences are available as well. Other topics include headlines, current interest, current publications, resources, the Medicare Modernization Act, the New Freedom Initiative (for Americans with disabilities), open door forums, the Physician Regulatory Issues Team, quality initiatives, quarterly provider updates, regulations, State waivers, and statistics and data.


DHHS - Indian Health Services

The Indian Health Service (HIS) is an agency within DHHS responsible for providing Federal health services to American Indians and Alaska Natives. IHS is the principal Federal health care provider and health advocate for Indian people, and its goal is to raise their health status to the highest possible level. IHS provides health services to about 1.5 million American Indians and Alaska Natives who belong to more than 557 Federally recognized tribes in 35 States. The Web site provides information on jobs and scholarships, public relations, area offices and facilities, IT resources (including the Electronic Health Record, IHS' latest medical software application), Nationwide programs and initiatives, medical and professional programs, resources for IHS management, and tribal leaders.

NASBHC - Toolkits for School-Based Health Centers

NASBHC, in this Center for Technical Assistance and Training site, furnishes tools kits for school-based health centers (SBHCs). They include the following: The Green Zone: An Asthma Tool Kit for SBHCs, a collection of asthma resource materials for elementary SBHC professionals; Creative Financing for SBHCs: A Tool Kit, a collection of resources and tools designed to help SBHCs secure long-term, stable, and diverse funding; and SBHC Operations Tool Kit on CD-ROM, designed to help SBHCs perform day-to-day job responsibilities.


Special Education and Medicaid KnowledgeBase

The Region VII Comprehensive Center (with Northrop Grumman) has developed helpforschools.com as a resource for educational agencies and schools in its region (Indiana, Kansas, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and Oklahoma).The Special Education and Medicaid KnowledgeBase is one of these resources that promotes student learning. The KnowledgeBase is designed to help school districts provide an individual educational plan (IEP) to meet the needs of a student with a disability at no cost to the parent or child, promote the parents' and student's rights and the district's obligation to safeguard the student's confidentiality, and ensure Medicaid payment for medical services delivered in accordance with a child's IEP.
