Family Engagement and Retention II

Family Engagement and Retention: Part II
(9/24/2013)
In this webinar Dr. Karen McCurdy, Professor and Chair of Human Development and Family Studies at the University of Rhode Island, built upon the July webinar discussion of engaging families during enrollment, and emphasized strategies that support the retention of families in voluntary home visiting programs. Joining Dr. McCurdy were David Jones (Office of Head Start) who shared how Early Head Start supports staff in building alliances with families; Pauline McKenzie-Day (SafeCare) who discussed SafeCare's approach to professional development related to family retention; Dr. Shannon Self-Brown (SafeCare) who provided information on their research projects using cellphones, texting, and computer software to engage families; and Molly O'Fallon (Nurse- Family Partnership) who reported on their work responding to changing family needs, and matching expectations of the program to individual families' preferences for level of service.
