Project Description

Hawaii is an isolated archipelago in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. With ocean separating each of our counties and the islands comprising them, we rely heavily on air medical transportation. Additionally, subspecialty care is centralized on the island of Oahu, including pediatric care. Therefore, air medical interfacility transfers for neighbor island patients, especially pediatric patients, are the norm and contribute to considerable distances and cost for families and health payers. Our geographical challenges and small population contribute to limitations in general healthcare access, resource, and numbers of providers.
