Project Description

The EMSC program is an integral part of the healthcare system in Wyoming. Through its actions and efforts, the needs of the pediatric populations are met in EMS agencies, hospitals, trauma rooms, and in communities around the state. The purpose of continuing an EMSC program in Wyoming is to: maintain the current pediatric specific readiness activities, expand facilities’ readiness to receive ill or injured children, and to ensure that the needs of this special population are addressed in all facets of emergency care.

Project Description

The purpose of this project is to develop a comprehensive, coordinated, and sustainable system in the state of Wyoming that enables newborns to receive a hearing screening before one month of age, an age appropriate diagnostic hearing evaluation (if needed) by three months of age, and appropriate early intervention services (as needed) before six months of age. This "1-3-6" timeline is recommended by the Joint Committee on Infant Hearing for early hearing detection and intervention programs. The intended outcome of this program is that newborns and infants diagnosed with hearing loss will have a plan of care for their audiological, medical, and early intervention needs and that the parents of these children will have the knowledge and support that is necessary for them to be actively engaged in carrying out the plan of care for their child(ren).
