Product Description

The primary care provider (PCP) who works with adolescents is in an excellent position to determine which adolescents are engaging in risk-taking behavior. The provider may be the first to recognize an adolescent with a substance abuse problem, an eating disorder, or one who is engaging in risky sexual behavior. In so doing, the provider is faced with a challenge. Adolescents have the right to confidential health care within certain parameters. The provider must protect this right. At the same time, providers working with adolescents often feel family-centered care is in their patient's best interest. The treatment of adolescents engaging in risk-taking behavior requires a dialectic resolution to these seemingly opposing goals. The purpose of this course is to provide clinicians with an organized approach to simultaneously promoting family-centered care and maintaining confidentiality when working with adolescents. This is a web-based online module. No prerequisites required.
