Research Networks

Our research networks expand scientific knowledge on how to improve the health of mothers and children. Their research findings aim to help all mothers, children, and their families thrive and reach their full potential.

Awards

We have 12 research networks. We often fund networks for five-year cycles.

We also fund one research collaborative, the Maternal Health Research Collaborative for Minority Serving Institutions.

Our reach

We share research findings widely with national and state health and social service systems.

How the research networks function

In MCHB, a research network is a collaborative group of researchers and institutions that work together to share resources, knowledge, and expertise on a specific topic of maternal and child health.

We fund research on:

  • Age groups
    • Infants, toddlers, children, young adults, women in adulthood
  • Time periods
    • Times around pregnancy, early childhood, or when moving from child to adult health services
  • Underserved populations
    • Low-income, racial and ethnic groups, rural groups, children and youth with special health care needs
  • Issues
    • Autism and developmental disabilities
    • How to better measure fair and just access to services

These networks often involve multidisciplinary teams who are experts in different specialties (disciplines) (for example epidemiologists, social scientists, and health care professionals). Researchers are mainly located at colleges, universities, and hospitals.

The studies should respond to one of these:

The goal is to use research to make better policies, practices, and decisions about resources to improve the health of mothers and children.

Engaging Research Innovations and Challenges (EnRICH) webinars

Our EnRICH webinar series happens about four times a year. They give researchers and practitioners a chance to share new solutions to current challenges in applied and translational maternal and child health research and practice. Each event features one or more experts in the field.
