She entered through her local community health center and used the help of a doula during birth. Bringing doula work to Black families is essential to help lower maternal complications and fatality rates.

Community of Hope is a birth center in Washington, DC with an amazing staff of midwives. At the Family Health and Birth Center location, parents can give birth in a beautiful, homelike environment full of support and care.
Healthy Start San Diego

One of the midwives does a newborn home visit with a Perinatal Navigator for Healthy Start San Diego. Healthy Start provides free prenatal & childbirth education, postpartum and breastfeeding support with a focus on Black parents throughout San Diego County. Enrolled participants may access free midwifery, lactation support and doula services as well as other resources based on need and availability.

The WIC Program in affiliation with BreastfeedMIAMI and Florida International University’s HRSA-funded MCH Catalyst program helps normalize breastfeeding and disrupt generational trauma. They promote the benefits of breastfeeding for baby, mother, father, partners, families, and the earth.
