Abstract

Problem:

MCHB-funded studies indicate that there is an "urgent need to equip the people currently working in state MCH programs & those who will be entering public health with the knowledge & skills necessary to continue in their effective stewardship of the MCH population."

Goals and objectives:

Goal 1: To provide skills and knowledge to the MCH workforce by connecting them to highly selected online trainings and resources that can be translated into action.Objective 1.1: Participate in strategic and collaborative assessment and planning. Objective 1.2: Engage a communications plan and perform outreach activities. Objective 1.3: Link to content; focus on quality standards; and develop technical enhancements. Objective 1.4: Ensure accountability and evaluation of materials and training methodologies. Objective 1.5: Collaborate with MCH agencies and external advisory groups.

Methodology:

Objective 1 Activities: Monitor Title V workforce needs; monitor currently available open-access materials & courses; develop strategy to link to existing content & create new content. Objective 2 Activities: Develop a communications and outreach plan; outreach to diverse audiences and partners; develop partnerships. Objective 3 Activities: Build on an existing prototype; review and vet existing content; link to existing content; develop new content to fill gaps; develop new features & enhancements. Objective 4 Activities: Analyze material quality and user data; ensure content, pedagogy, & adult learning approach are meeting workforce needs; assist in external evaluations. Objective 5 Activities: Involve the MCH Expert Panel, MCHB Advisory Committee Objective 6 Activities: Maintain relationships with Title V Programs & MCHB grantees. Objective 7 Activities: Develop a 3-pronged approach; ensure access via Section 508.

Coordination:

AMCHP; ATMCH; CityMatCH; state Title V programs (among others).

Evaluation:

Process evaluation will include documenting implementation and monitoring outputs and assessing quality. Outcome evaluation will include measuring access to resources and tracking users' changes in knowledge, attitude, and skills.
