Abstract

Goals and objectives:

The purpose of the University of Florida (UF) Pediatric Pulmonary Center (PPC) is to improve the health status of infants, children and adolescents with chronic respiratory conditions, sleep issues and other related special healthcare needs through interdisciplinary leadership training of future healthcare professionals and the existing workforce. Specifically, the PPC trains interdisciplinary students and workforce members to be leaders in providing interdisciplinary care, in order to increase access to and improve systems for children with pediatric respiratory/sleep conditions and, more generally, for all children and youth with special healthcare needs (CYSHCN). Leadership training focuses on the MCH Competencies 4.0, especially interdisciplinary care, population-based health, cultural/linguistic competence (CLC) and family centered care and engagement. PPC activities address the needs of underserved individuals and groups and work to develop equity in healthcare delivery and health outcomes.

Goal 1: Provide and evaluate high quality interdisciplinary leadership training for long, medium and short terms trainees from core disciplines.

Goal 2: To increase family engagement in healthcare and train family leaders.

Goal 3: To increase access to care and training for rural patients/providers.

Goal 4: To provide CE, TA and systems enhancement to promote collaboration with Title V and other MCH organizations for strong regional and national impact.

Goal 5: To increase diverse recruitment/retention and cultural competence.

Particular focus this granting cycle will be on national impact, increasing access to care for rural areas through telehealth, tele-education and tele-consultation and enhancing family engagement through growth of the Florida Family Leaders' Network.
