Abstract

Goals and objectives:

The TRANSCEND-UP Program provides training in MCH leadership competencies to a cohort of undergraduate nutrition students each year. The program aims to create new pathways for students from Minority Serving Institutions (MSIs) to pursue careers and graduate education in MCH nutrition and build a network of support for students. This 12-month program provides students with opportunities for professional and skill development through a combination of in-person, online, and paid experiential learning, along with peer-mentorship, and is designed to create the next generation of MCH nutrition leaders. In addition, TRANSCEND-UP aims to create a network for MCH nutrition faculty at MSIs and practitioners passionate about diversifying the workforce and promoting best practices in leadership and workforce development training. Meg Bruening, PhD, MPH, RD leads the TRANSCEND-UP Program at Penn State University with founding institutional partners including Montclair State University, Arizona State University, University of Minnesota, University of Illinois-Chicago, University of Houston, and Morgan State University.
