Abstract

Introduction:

The Emory MCH Epidemiology Doctoral Fellows program will build on existing strengths, leverage new opportunities, and further develop future MCH epidemiology doctoral candidates by partnering with the HRSA-funded Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental and Related Disabilities (GaLEND) and the Morehouse School of Medicine Satcher Health Leadership Institute (SHLI) to offer MCH Leadership Competency training. With a focus on training in sophisticated epidemiologic data management and analytics, MCH in a life course perspective, and the importance of addressing health disparities in MCH outcomes, particularly through analysis in state and local areas in the southeastern Region IV, this program will continue to shape future leaders in applied maternal and child health epidemiology.

Problem:

Effective MCH programming requires the data skills, critical thinking, and leadership of PhD-trained epidemiologists.

Methodology:

Objective 1: Financially support one doctoral candidate each year in Epidemiology with dissertation and career interests in applied MCH epidemiology.

Objective 2: Educate doctoral epidemiology candidates in the methods, data, and conceptual frameworks underpinning state and local MCH programming.

Objective 3: Strengthen the evidence base in MCH Epidemiology through dissemination and publication of student research.
